Ingredients
  

  • 4 ripe pears (Bosc or Anjou work best)
  • 2 cups dairy-free milk (coconut, almond)
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce (replaces butter)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed graham crackers (gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)

Instructions
 

1. Prep the Pears

  • Peel, core, and slice the pears into thin wedges.
  • To keep them fresh, toss them in lemon juice.

2. Make the Dairy-Free Custard

  • In a bowl, whisk together dairy-free milk, applesauce, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. Layer the Koogle

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half the pears.
  • Pour half the custard mixture over them.
  • Sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  • Repeat with remaining pears and custard.

4. Bake to Perfection

  • Bake for 35 - 40 minutes, or until brown and bubbling, at 350°F (175°C).
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.
